Catherine Ford was born in Bloomsbury, London; her father had left her family and she was raised by her mother, grandparents and godparents. Ford was suffering from anxiety disorder that was rooted in words as a young toddler. Ford was intrigued by the acting profession during her teens and was a part of the National Youth Theatre. She gained admission to the Sylvia Young Theatre School, however, she decided after one week that she would not be a good fit there. Ford made an application at the Central School of Speech and Drama and finally won the position she wanted on her third attempt. Shaun Dingwall played Pete Tyler on Doctor Who. Ford was not able to complete her degree until 1993. However, in 1991, Ford had made her first appearance on TV on the show Surgical Spirit. At that time, Ford adopted the stage name Catherine Tate. Tate made her television debut in 1991and appeared on television shows like The Bill. Men Behaving Badly. and London's Burning. Tate also regularly worked as a theatre actor and was eventually a part of the Royal Shakespeare Company during its season of 2000-2001. Tate began to gain attention because of her stand-up comedic performances in the year 1996.
